In light of the current situation with Corona virus, I am now minimising all contact with customers, and implementing new measures to try to avoid spreading the virus. The new measures include avoiding shaking hands, keeping at least 2m away at all times, avoiding indirect contact (such as passing a cheque, or sharing a pen), wearing disposable gloves while inside customers' houses, and sadly declining any offers of tea, coffee and even cake. If I (or any of my team) develop symptoms, or come into contact with anyone suspected of carrying the virus, we will of course self isolate immediately.
I am now operating 'zero contact' visits ONLY - this means taking all the details of the job over the phone, as well as the detailed location of any relevant equipment and asking the customer to open the door when I arrive but to then retreat to a different part of the house until the job is complete, after which I will phone (from outside the property) to update on the situation. Any invoices/paperwork will be sent by email. If the work needs to be carried out in an essential area (ie the kitchen), I suggest waiting until the situation improves.
I am of course happy to take phone calls and emails during this time, and am currently making a list of jobs to do and people to contact as soon as government guidance allows.
If you have any specific requirements or suggestions as to how I can further reduce contact and risk, please do let me know.
Hopefully the outbreak will soon be under control, but until then it makes sense to be as careful as possible. Obviously this is a dynamic situation and if the government release new guidelines/mandates I will adjust my working practices accordingly.
